    My First Speeding Ticket! Yay!

Well I've always been one of those people who does something in a big way so that's exactly what I did here... I'm a month away from my 21st birthday and almost made it with out a speeding ticket but last saturday morning I was on a run from my home in NH to Syracuse, NY to meet up with my band when a Vermont state trooper clocked me at a speed I would rather not disclose at this time. Ok, so I was only going 75 but that was still well above the posted limit. There were several factors involved here: it's a big road and everything about it just screams "55 zone," I knew I was going a little fast anyway, and I was coming down a rather large hill. Cops hate that excuse. I was on Route 9 in VT, for those of you who know the road. It's a nice road with lots af fun sections and it's very hard to go the speed limit. Before everyone starts, I too am I strong believer of "Keep it on the track" but to quote Martin Lawrence in Blue Streak: "Sometimes you gotta feed a little speed to your ride!" So yes, here I stand with my first speeding ticket for $224. I suppose this has humbled me a little but I do still drive a BMW...

PS: Any advice on how to get the charge reduced?

At least go to court and explain. I did that with my 58 in a 40 and the judge at least reduced it to $100 because I was a full time student. She was really a big jerk and I'm probably going to apeal her judgement, but at least she lowered my fine.

Not sure what you mean by that but... what was the posted speed limit, 55mph?

I suppose I should have said "slowed me down" instead of "humbled". The limit was 50, as apparently all the limits in VT are. (Except of course highways...)

I've had plenty of speeding tickets...not that I'm proud, but if your court system is like mine, I suggest you fight the ticket on your own, and you will probably get a plea bargain for a lesser amount, especially this being your first ticket...

Thanks for the advice, I think I'm going to play up the "first ticket" thing. Can't hurt I suppose...
