What do these two buttons do?

    91 318i...

first one is on the factory key, round button in the middle of the key. Obviously the battery is dead in the key, but what did it originally do?

Second one, is above the driver side window switches. A square button. I'm not talking about the rectangular shaped window breaker switch. The little square one is on the opposite side of where the window breaker switch is. What does this do? I can't figure it out...

the round button turns on the light in the key. your battery/light is probably dead.

the square one shuts off power to the rear windows so kids cant play with them. so you have a 4 door eh? (i put on in my vert to power the antenna so i dont have to listen to it whistle when im driving and listening to pandora)

      I do...

And I also think I have four out of six window switches that are bad....

Also why would they bother to put that little square switch there when there is already another button that shuts off the windows?

I don't even own this car anymore, but I'm too lazy to change the picture.

the breaker is for if the window is jammed so the motor doesnt burn out. the square button still lets the front two windows work.

thanks, i HATED that high pitched whistle. and it was pretty easy to make the setup look stock. i believe that its one of the white wires that you want to cut and but the switch in the middle of.

The "dead" window switches probably just need to be taken apart and cleaned up. Try it - it's not too hard, and they work afterwards.
