    argh! broken toys...

so I ordered a set of ellipsoids of ebay. they aren't hella, they're a knock off brand, but they aren't too bad and the price was right.

Unfortunately the lenses were smashed pretty badly when they were shipped:

I'm hoping greg can pick me up a set of smoked hella lenses. I guess it will work out since that's what I wanted to begin with, and I can fix the clear lenses and use them during the winter months.

I've heard from other people who ordered the same lights on ebay (they go for $179 plus shipping) and theirs got broken too, so be careful. they were shipped from taiwan, FYI.

i just want new lenses, i've already got ellipsoids but my lenses are pitted...pretty bad. My foglights are also very pitted. Someone point me in the direction for new lenses. I've heard real bad things about Mr. Lens.

Hope everything works out for you...goodluck

Buy the lenses on ebay - they're from Mr Lense, but they go through a 3rd party, plus you'll be protected by ebay and paypal that way. I think the people who had trouble were buying them directly from Mr. Lense (I'd never deal directly with a company in south africa!!)

I'll probably get replacements for this set from them, and for my foglights later.

I thought that the smoked ellipsoids just 'looked' smoked because of shading or something in the inside of the lens. I didn't think that the actual lens was smoked. Am I wrong?

nando.. what parts are you planning on getting from greg? you said "new lenses"?
i'm guessing you mean the front half of the ellipsoid low beam, and the high beam.

if this is the case, you should verify they will fit before hand. i have no experience with those depo headlights, but i know from experience that bosche and hella parts are not compatable, so depo could very well be incompatable as well.

if you want any measurements or anything i have hella parts laying around. i can try to help you determine if they fit or not.

the glass is not any different, but the low beams have a different reflector and the high beams have special black panels inside of them to give the illusion of it being smoked.

are the lenses on e-bay the same or will they not fit stock US ellipsoids? Also i didn't think you could buy foglight lenses...for some reason i thought you had to replace the whole unit. Is this true?

you can buy lenses for the fog lights. they have to be popped off just like ellipsoids.

Got a reply back from the seller, I'm going to keep the set I have, send him $45 and he is going to send me another new set. I'll get replacement lenses for the two cracked ones and have 3 sets of lights, or maybe I'll sell one of the sets. :)

e304lyfe, I'd love your help in confirming that they will work. Do you have any pictures of the brackets? I've seen pics of them before and I think these are the same. In any case, the Depo lights are copys of Hella (not Bosch), so I'd assume they were comatible, just cheaply made. lmk.
