    Any SR20DET E30 owners?

Thinking about buying one of those.

Anyone has had experience with them?

They are quite common where I live and we don't have a 325i or 318is in manual.
The automatic ones are terribly overpriced.

Checked out an SR20DET E30 which was quite exciting because I never dared to, tried the slow M40B18 first. Some of the Central Locking and power windows don't work, the clutch and gearbox is stiff, and a slight smell of petrol on the interior. Other than that all else is good.

Anyone had experience? Could it turn into a big burden of some sort soon? Doesn't feel like it but I will find garages and sorts.

    Hey man...

If you ever heard of Risky Devils you need to check out AJ's car. My inspiration. http://www.stanceworks.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=14881

I've owned a sr powered s13 at one point and a 2.7 Turbo setup. I was as well on the fence about doing this swap in my e30 but you cant beat the inline 6 german SOUND and engineering man. The m20 can make crazy power. Yes I know the sr is reliable and power is easily attainable since it came factory with turbo. But for the amount of money it takes to swap one in and buy the motor you can build a nasty m20. This is my two cents man. So if you got a sr laying around and a e30 with no motor. Then I guess its a no brainer. Good luck my friend.

People that swap crazy motors into cars love to piss off purist lol. Seems to go hand and hand.

But...Then again if your from Thailand then you guys swap sr's into everything lol. Wan De Cap.
FI takes another life....:-? New birth to 2.7 stroker

Over here building M20 is kinda bold. Considering that there are no company over here that even bothers with building M20 bits. You'd be importing a lot. S52 also would be an expensive import. Jap motors just hangout around here.

I am looking at something that is quite cheap and already has an SR20 so theres no work. Just sort out bits.

I could've checked out a single Turbo 1JZ or 2JZ . Those things do 400 whp. But not looking much into the heavy front lump division judging that the car would be nose heavy if I did so.

There are a few members here that have done the swap. There was one at Guten Fest.

There is one up here in Boise. And, there is a 4G63 on r3v somewhere too.

For real? If you are serious, how has it been treating you?

It's faster then my 325i. It's kinda nice having something different and having a dealership that actually stocks parts for the motor. Easy to get power out of. Not a fan of trying to work the the exhaust. Will soon have that problem fixed as soon as I get a new exhaust manifold made up for a holset. The swap has its downsides. I should have just turbo'd the m20 but for what I have into it the price difference isn't that much

I am checking one out that has already been put together. It's quite cheap as its not a purist BMW. Over here buying a 325i with the M20B25 is already really expensive. Turbo would probably be very difficult or even impossible due to a lack of interest in that route and the fact that I am in a RHD country.

The swap I would believe would be much easier to do on a RHD e30. I think am one of a handful of sr20det swapped e30's in Canada. I have kinda put it off to the side in finishing it but slowly getting back into it. Just needed a small break from it and concentrate on other things in life.

Just look at it and make sure the swap has been done right. I know my engine mounts came from thailand and I wish I never went that route. I ended up having to remake them to fit properly.

You definitely should be having a very rare car if you end up finishing the swap. If I were living in the US or Germany I would've taken the S52 any day.
