it really depends on where you want to do it. but those are the conditions for new owner and out of state.

as long as those terms are met. if u get pulled over and you have not done these, car gets impounded.

Also, why NO to getting it registered in Cali? Extremely expensive? Wouldn't you need a proof of address instead of making it up?

it is extremely expensive and it requires getting a ca id, which needs a birth certificate and proof of address.,

so you dont want it and they dont want to give it to you.

Just take the plates from your current e30 with you and put them on the e30 you're buying. Problem?
wow you would be committing a misdemeanor, a high class one.

They would impound your car on the spot and either arrest you or write you a large ticket.

the odds that they dont look at your vin when they pull you over are small.

Dont do this no matter what. Spoken from personal experience, losing a car and spending a night in jail.

Depends on how they do things in NJ. In TN the tag stays with the driver, and will usually get re-used if it has two or more months left on it. If you blur the lines of legality you can transfer a car to yourself to keep it from having to pass emissions for a year...

I bought an e30 in California years ago and just drove it back to NY no problem. You get to keep the plates there (unlike NY where they have to be returned by the original owner) so I just registered it when I got back here.

When I bought one in Ohio I had to get temp tags from the Ohio DMV since the PO had to keep his plates. It took like 10 minutes and cost ~$20.
