if you think you have carburetor problems, just wait until you start fucking with the electrical system. i can say from experience everything that lucas electric touched is shit. just compare the connectors on this car with those of the bmw. unfortunately, its like night and day.
looks like a nice project though. good luck with it. i have a pretty good amount of experience with these things from my formative years. if you have questions, just ask.

So a couple of updates from this weekend.
I finally said FUK IT, and decided not to rebuild these POS strombergs and just go straight into the Holley.
Intake Manifold Removed, yes the valley pan gasket is made of fuckin' metal.
Don't worry its filled with rags now.
I want to throw this thing as far as I possibly can.
Got the new manifold assembled waiting to go on, just got to figure out how to route these cooling lines since the new manifold has no provision for them.
Im pretty sure I can just run a longer piece of hose instead of using the bar that was on the bottom of the stock manifold.
Hopefully I can get it on this week, and try and crank it over.1986 Plymouth Horizon. Base.

thats a cool factoid but this car is a cabrio.
as bad as that manifold/carb setup is, you really need to keep it so that when you get tired of messing with the car(which you will), you will be able to include it with the sale to its next owner.
in my estimation, working on english cars can be looked at as a novelty. sort of like when a puppy or a kitten turns up on your doorstep and your kids beg and plead until you give in and allow this little terror to become the family pet. once the novelty wears off, you can't wait for the kids to go to grandmas for the summer so the pet can "disappear". it will be a relief not to clean its pee and poop off the carpet anymore.
no offense, but after you work on this for a while and then go back to working on your e30, you will have so much more appreciation for german engineering. you will probably also swear to yourself that you will never lay your hands on an english vehicle again. ask me how i know....Last edited by flyboyx; 06-11-2012, 11:58 PM.sigpic
