    Volvo bullshiiii...er...content...

So, my friends parents have a 2000 S40 1.9 turbo.

Sometimes it starts, sometimes is doesn't. You turn the key, nothing, shit lights up, maybe a click of relays, but no starter action. Do this several times, and eventually it will start.

My friend put a starter in it already.

WFT is going on here. Shifter is all the way in P, I also tried it in N and same problem.

Cleaned the battery terminals, no dice.

Did I mention I hate Volvos?

I've read shit about wiring harnesses, etc, but I just donno where to start. Hell, I don't even know where the starter is on this turd.

IDK how I got roped into this one, but I have to fix it now, and I need the sidework, so yeah, that's that.

    Anyone have a clue?

      Exactly.

But seriously, I need advice with this one. I don't want to throw parts at it and spend her money needlessly.

my honda did this. Had to do with the ignition wiring because of a shitty alarm the PO put on.

              LAWL!

Ignition switch is viable. I know mine is going on the e28, but there to diag/start it I just go to the data connector and bridge #15 and #11.

I'm just in the position where I don't wanna throw parts at the problem, but I have no clue when it comes to Swedish turds.

I always assumed if an XC90 had a problem you just replace the transmission?

                  Guess not.

If the relays are good, you may just want to check and clean the connections to the starter. Mine had too much corrosion to get a good connection and would only work after toggling the ignition switch a few times or wiggling the wires a bit. After a week of this starting bullshit, I disconnected them and sanded them and haven't had a problem since. But this is on my e30...

So get out a test light and go from there???

Can you "jump" the starter and bypass other wiring like on an e30. Thats the first thing I would do

Battery good? Try 5Toes' method first.
