The same mentality that mandates safety measures may very well lead
to outright bans of the cars we love to drive.

Internal combustion engines could be outlawed in the interest of "The greater good"

How much horsepower does a person really need in order to travel?
If it can be shown that there lower horsepower to weight ratios
could result in fewer deaths and injuries, will you be okay with driving
a car with the acceleration of a 1980 VW Rabbit Diesel?

I'd be willing to bet that wearing helmets in cars could save lives.
But will people accept helmet laws for driving cars?

Ultimately, the question is where to draw the line. I prefer to draw it in a place that gives more room for freedom.

In a presentation at TechCrunch Disrupt, Google CEO Eric Schmidt talked about a technology nirvana between humans and computers - and suggested that computers, not humans, should be driving cars.

The race to create and roll out autonomous or driverless cars took a step up this last week when three Volvo cars traveled 200 kilometres on a busy highway, while the drivers sat back and relaxed. Watch a new industry take shape before your very eyes.

no, it's not an /thread. i share the sentiment, but hopefully you realize that we are in the minority. to most, driving is an inconvenient necessity to get to where they need to be; lawmakers are just out to protect the interests of insurance co's, car companies, hospital and emergency care conglomerates, police forces, and lawyers. the manufacturers and their suppliers are eating this shit up, because for each new law or mandate, a new contract is signed by a supplier and cars can cost more and be sold to the masses as 'more advanced and safer'.

unless there is a fundamental shift in the public's respect of what it means to drive a car, nothing will happen.

however, i can't argue that if i must be involved in an accident, i'd much rather be in a 2011 camry than a 1991 bmw. at least then, i wouldn't be caught dead in a camry (see what i did there?)

Way to be proactive; post up about a two decade old "issue" on a model specific message board, the members of which average in age of about oh, 22 and a half. What is your fucking point?

how about the freedom of drinking a 20oz bottle of soda.

The mayor of NY (Bloomberg) is trying to pass a law where establishments that serve food, cannot sell any sodas/sugary substances in excess of 16oz. That doesn't stop you from getting two 12oz sodas. The logic? There is none.

Only reason i post this here, is b/c this country has become a joke. If NY passes this, rest assured its coming to a city near you.
