I don't care what anyone says. I showed up to the every dealership in my beat up ass pontiac grand am and test drove every car I was looking at, Lexus IS300, 350Z (new at the time), G35 Coupe (Brand new and only one on the lot), and the car I eventually got, my 330Ci.

All I did was go in, told them I was looking at getting a new car, told them the car I wanted to test drive, they scanned my lic. and that was it. A guy at one of the dealerships, told me and my buddy to take out the 325i for the day, and let me know how I liked it. Very cool.

So don't be a floppy cock going in there, look them in the eye and tell them what you want to test drive

He didn't lose your business. He was smart and didn't let you waste any of his time.
I wasn't there to waste his time; I was there to drive a car. If I had liked the car, I could have bought it. Period.
I might not have looked like I could have to him, but I could have. That’s my only point; I say he lost my business because I won't buy a car there. And I have bought a few cars since then that I would have bought there if the guy hadn’t been a dick to me. If He had treated me better I would have gotten an M coupe that he has on his lot instead of my e30 when I was looking for a car back in September. My truck chewed up the ring and pinion days before I was supposed to leave for
Montana. But I ended up buying an e30 from a private party without any warranty and hoping it made it up there and back.
He did lose my business, I could have bought the car I wanted to drive and now I could buy any car on his lot, but I never will. I won't try to tell this to him, or think I am fucking him over by not buying his cars, but he isn't going to get my money.

If a rich dude is buying his kid a car, he's probably going to just get the car for him. Or at least be with him to check it out. No one says, "hey son, go to the dealer without me and test drive some stuff, I'll be waiting at home with a blank check." Salesmen know this and have probably learned from experience they're better off ignoring every single 18 year old that comes onto the lot than hoping the next one with be that 1 in 100 with actual money.
When I was younger and my parents still bought me cars, that’s exactly what they did, they told me to go look at what I wanted to get, get some prices, safety specs, stuff like that. Drive a few cars, and come back with a few that I would like, then I would go down with my dad and a check for what he is willing to pay and buy the car.
Every car that anyone in my family owns was bought like that. My dad could care less about looking at cars, he had more important things to do, like run a business. But he was willing to write a check.
Shit he didn't go with my mom when she was looking at an X5, I did, he did however write a check for it.

I have NEVER had my dad have ANY interest in car shopping. he could care less about cars; He knows I know more about cars than he ever will, so he lets me do all the leg work. This is coming from the perspective of someone who is the son of "some rich dude". I know how it works.
