Can I put an auto trans on a tow dolly?

Bought a car with a blown motor 1988325iC, $600. Can I dolly it home 40miles without damaging the automatic trans?

I suspect not. Safer to disconnect driveshaft, IMHO.

Ive never dollied before but can't you just raise the rear wheels on the dolly and keep the front ones down?

You can raise the rears and get away with it if it's just 40miles. However, you'll wan't to make sure the steering wheel is locked and tied down. Do not dolly an auto with the rear wheel trailing. ever.

As said already, back it on or disconnect the drive shaft.

AAA towing ;). If not disconnect the driveshaft or trailer it bro.Dolly's are hairy to tow with,we towed a 68 charger r/t from the bayarea(sf) to los angeles.....I will never do that again!

i have towed 4 e30's and 2 e28s on a car dolly (not all at once of course), and the only one i had a problem with was one of the e28's because it needed tie rods and ball joints, so the front end wandered a bit.

in each case, i had backed the car onto the tow dolly, and made sure the steering wheel was locked in place. i also tied the seatbelt to the wheel to ensure that it wouldn't turn.


if you take the same precautions i did, you should be fine.

I've dollied mr2s on the front wheels before, just take it easy, 40 miles is so close you can afford to go slow and such. Nice find! I recently picked up a similar vert as well.
