I've heard the opposite.... That re using bolts is bad because your suppose to torque them to thread stretching spec.... Not sure if that's true tho

Well, the bolts have been sitting in vinegar for almost a week now. They look SOOOO much better.. now time to buff them up!

I've read 18lb/ft, that doesn't seem thread stretching to me. Has anyone ever used a rock tumbler and some sort of polishing compound? I saw somewhere where a guy put some kind of media and that Nu Finish car polish in a rock tumbler and the bolts came out like mirrors.

It is only 21-24lbs, that is not going to harm the bolts to be reused. It is fine if you did not bugger them up removing them.

wheel-whores.com trust me. Reusing the bolts is completely fine. As far as polishing, research. Alot of elbow grease! Goodluck!

Polish with mothers in a cordless drill as stated above then load them all bolt face up through holes in a cardboard box and clear coat them. That's what I did. Stops them from rusting quickly.

I used the Coca-Cola method, I let the nuts & bolts sit, changed the soda at the end of the day for like 4 days. All the crud, rust and protective coat came right off, I lightly sanded them down with fine steel wool and sent them off to be powder coated black.
I think they turned out fine, for the price of Soda and steel wool. :D

The bolts/nuts have been sitting in vinegar for exactly a week now. I think ill be swapping out the vinegar tonight and let them sit in some fresh vinegar for another few days.

As for the rims, I've been slacking on them. Had a few problems come up and couldn't really work on them much. I tried paint remover, and it didn't work for crap. Then I got some heavy duty easy off and it pulled like 75% of the clear coat off. The only problem I had with the easy off was the amount of oxidation that was created. They looked HORRIBLE(ill have pics soon). Tried to polish it off, but wasn't working well at all. The next day, just went and bought sand paper. Since my e30's not running yet, I got a friend that decided to bring his mkI rabbit over and mount these on. Raised the car up, and put it into 3rd gear. Used grid 200>500>1000>1200>2000. Will need to get a higher grid paper for that last finishing touch. Let me tell you, AMAZING results. We just did one rim, and for a first time, it went great. Will need to do a better job on the corners and around the bolt holes. I'll have pictures soon.

Those were my pictures from when I re-did my set of Hartge's. The tumbler method worked very well for me obviously, and took minimal effort.
