          Why.....not?

Maybe an X5 rear. Just completely rip out everything Rover and put BMW parts as I go, just like was done with the engine.

What am I missing here? D1, correct?

So you have the half-shafts and hub off. To remove the rear discs you have to get at the 5 nylok nuts holding the ABS ring on the back side of the disc. I just used an open-end wrench on the between the disc & hub. It takes a little while. Once they're off, the ring should pull right out, but you might have to persuade it since it got so hot. If the ring is out then the 5 remaining disc-capturing bolts should be right there.

This is where I'm at. I've got the disc in a vice, with the hub attached. ABS ring refuses to come out. I soaked it in WD over night. Will do so again when I get home after work. If that doesn't help....heat? I'm thinking of picking up the set on ebay for $60 just to have spares in case I muck this up hardcore.

I really needed to know if there was anything else, besides the nylok nuts, holding it in. Guess there is....rust. *facepalm*

I ordered the bearings, etc since I've got it all apart.

Also, bearing grease....anything special? I've got some nice, nice Mercedes Benz green stuff.

Disco 1 rear rotor abs ring wont come off... I've read a few posts where people have this same issue. I suspect I have already ruined my ring becasue I have twisted the studs off of the back of the ring (with relative ease). I was going to order more and thought nothing of it until I saw the...

^^This. They aren't picky about their fluids/lubricants and they respond well to brute force.

(reminds me of a woman I know...)

Haha! Awesome, I'll just get some stuff from Advance tonight. Only thing that I won't have until tomorrow are is the lock washer and stub axle seal.

I'll do the front pads and put the hub back together tonight, then tomorrow goes in the lock washer, etc. Provided I don't smash up the ABS ring. My amber light decided to come on after the caliper locked up and I did a stop where the ABS should have engaged. I've looked into clearing the light to see if it comes back on once I'm done dicking with this.

                          Thanks for the help!

One more thing, would it behoove me to paint the backs of the rotor and ABS disc so in the future this doesn't become an issue? I know you don't replace the rotor each time with the pads, but just for future ease if anything should ever become an issue again.
