    1986 325e

    i'm about to get a 1986 325e
i'm new to the BMW's i come from the land of Volkswagens!

but the car i am getting is pretty clean. guy put a running engine in the car. it cranks but doesn't start. now i honestly do not know any information on the car besides it cranks over and doesn't start. i was just wanting to know if there would be anything to check first, obviously spark, and if she is getting fuel. but maybe some kind of other problems these cars may have.

any information would be nice. thank you.

this is her. paying 700$ for it.

Check the M20 subforum, there are about 500 threads about ETAs with a "crank - no start" issue.

Congrats on the car and welcome aboard.

I would start replacing simple things such as; Spark plugs, distributor cap /rotor, and fuel filter. All fairly cheap fixes and worth replacing on newly purchased e30s. With any luck after replacing these she may just fire right up. Nice find btw.

Reference sensors on the bellhousing. If that doesn't work, there are some outside options that may be causing it. Keep this thread updated, and you can work through it. I just did the same thing with my car when I bought it.

I came from vws, I owned 4 mk3s and after my 4th I decided I neeeded something fun.

I own 2 e30s, an 88 coupe 325is and an 87 eta. The eta is faster and way more fun then the 2.0 mk3 but it has about the same hp (slightly more actually). E30s are great fun and reliable for the most part.

As mentioned above...check sensors on the bellhousing with a voltmeter. Buy it and fix it at home. You wont regret it.
