Honestly she should just lease so she can get what she wants, but she's looking to buy.

She needs a SUV for height. She can't get out of her civic very well.

I do like the new Ford Escape but it's not as good on economy as the outgoing boxy version. My GF has a 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid which sees a lot of highway driving. I've personally seen 34mpg highway with a light foot - 32-ish is more of the norm. The new model isn't offered in a hybrid form so the most economical version isn't as good as the outgoing hybrid.

If fuel economy is high on the list of 'needs', find a 2012 Escape Hybrid looking to be cleared off a dealers' lot. From my experience with the GFs example for the last year or so, its been a trouble-free ride. Doesn't look as good as the new one, but still a capable small SUV.

I test drove a Nissan Juke with a 5 speed and I'm ashamed to say I liked it a lot.
because you didn't have to look at the outside. GAWD that thing is not only ugly,
    it's deformed.

Did I mention the crappy auto assist brakes in the escape jerked when you slightly depressed the pedal. I just went for a light easy slowdown for the test drive and it like grabs right away and jerks. I thought it was broken.

Forrester looks like the ticket, 4spd auto and flat 4 engine ftl.

Escape felt like a dang truck. Felt humongous.

rav4 was the best driving, but interior belongs on a toy car.

Tiguan had best everything, but too pricy.

    Need to look at cx-5.
