Sounds oh so reminiscent of Chrysler in the early 80's with the K car platform - they used it for a lot of models too. They sucked ass.

If your in the market for a roadster, I see the sky and solstice having a hard time competing, first you have the miata which is very close in price, and arguably a much better car( I dont know for a fact ok, Ive driven miatas but no sky/solstice), then if your looking to step it up 5k or so, you have the s2000 staring at you. Imo the best roadster on the market right now. Razor sharp handling, very rev happy motor with a 8k revlimit (wasnt it 9k in the earlier models? I swear my freinds 01 goes all the way to 9k.) HIDS standard, awesome seats, although its a small car, my freind fits comfortably and he is 6'4 soo tall guys and girls have room to drive the thing too.

        S2Ks up to 04 have an 8900 redline, 05+ are what, 8200?

The miata has been the standard since 1990, I doubt these new comers will give it much of a challenge, at least not in their first iteneration.

          The Solstice/sky is 19k. The S2000 starts at 36k, that's a wee bit more than 5k there.

The solstice platform isn't brand new, it's been out in europe for a few years, so it's fairly robust and worked out. I personally am interested in the coupe version that they have in the works. Seeing as they already have a 205 hp supercharged version of the ecotec in the Cobalt, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't stick it in the solstice.

My niece just got a supercharged Cobalt. yeah its got some power, but overall it still feels like you are in a Z24. All of the interior bits are cheap and plasticky feeling. despite the nice engine, I think GM is still engineering based on cars being disposable after 6-7 years or 100k. If they'd approach their cars like their trucks, and make them solid feeling and durable, they might have a decent product.

It doesn't need a ton of HP to be fun look at the 318iS guys. Besides fuel economy should be good with them too.

Actually they're marketing it as the MX-5 Miata in the US but it's badged MX-5. I don't understand why they'd change the name of a car that's been so successful for so long, to fit the rest of the line?

Word on the street says that the "miata" was too much of a girlyman type car.
