Manual Transmission Fluid Type

I have '91 325I and would like to change the transmission fluid. Book says it is determined by a Red,green or no label on the bellhousing. Can anyone tell me where the sticker is located? Fluid I drained out smelled like sulfur simular to gear oil but want to make sure I put the right stuff back in.
