88's suck, read if you have one.

Today me and my dad are changing the front bumper to his 88 ix and it quite possible is the biggest bitch we have ever had to do to the car. My brother tagged the front left on a jersey rail 6 months back and today we are putting the new(but old) bumper from a 87' 325i that we found in a junkyard. So if you have an 88 check to see if you have a big hole where the bumper mounts on each side it's about 1 3/8". Any other year does not have this hole for mounting, at least we think so. So on the 87' bumper we have to measure out the holes and drill them and hope it fits. Oh and the shocks are different. FML

Yeah, 88 bumpers are a one year only as plastic bumpers are a direct bolt on. You should have just gotten a plastic for the front. lol

      What?

Does your 88 have diving boards like the 87?

88s have diving boards, but they are different from early models. This is not news.

Bud, you had the easiest cosmetic upgrade you can have..and you kinda blew it.

This forum is here for a damn reason, search and read before you do anything to that car.

All the 88's I've had has had plastic bumpers.

But I've seen 88's with diving boards.

I've never seen the 88 diving boards mountings, I just assumed they were like regular diving boards.

Most common are the IX 88s having diving boards I believe. Don't know why buy all 88 ixs I've seen had dbs.

A local guy, 325ix, has a set of plastic bumpers for sale (I believe). He had them on his '88 iX.

If u have an 88 MY with plastics, then it was swapped at some point. No surprise here. Should have just swapped to plastics.

Sounds like the real problem here is that your brother sucks and driving and hit a wall.

Just cut some big holes out from the bottom and use your old shocks...

resell the bumper and buy some latemodel plastics, the best thing you can do to that car.
