Tube that runs into the trunk

I own a 88 325ix and I noticed today after removing my rear seats that there is a metal tube on the passenger side that runs into a portion of the trunk.

Does anyone know what that metal tube is?

I believe it protects the fuel line running from the filler neck to the tank.

nope. it's the protection for the VENT lines between the tank and the filler.

The seat pan droops down, and those lines need to be able to gravity- feed
into the tank, so they ran that tube for 'em.

I can only imagine the meetings in about 1981 about it...

it had to have added real money per shell to do.
