Protecting your OBDII car in a situation like that is simple. Place a hidden switch in the path of the 12v+ or data wire on the port. That port is only needed when diagnosing etc, only time it would need to be switched "on" is when the codes needed reading.

Thats the beauty of intalling EWS3 on an e30, looking up the vin isn't going to do a theif any good.
That and my car is a manual. That's gotta be a theft deterrent to the average american by itself.
