what makes a truck? towing capacity? your chevy won't pull a m777 will it?
bed capacity? how many fully equipped troops will your chevy carry?
off road ability? since when? and of course a military 5 ton is driven on all axles, so its off road capability is limited only by its' size.
it is a matter of degree. the chevy and toyota are both classified as light duty trucks. your personal opinion as to the dividing line is just that- an opinion.
my '87 nissan v6 4x4 has acted more than enough like a truck for me. it can pull a ski boat powerful enough to get me up to the river, get above 11,000' on mono county roads and take a measured ton of crap to the dump and it has done it for more than 300,00 miles.
just saying

ha toyota's arent tucks?!?! your a fuckin idiot! i had a buddy who thought the same thing ( Dodge, chevy, ford) were only trucks you could use for working, he ended up getting stuck with a half full bed of wood in his dodge 4x4 ram, well my buddy in his 4x4 84' yota pickup (the good ones with solid front axles, and dual cases) with a load of oak wood as well drove past him in 2wd no less and hooked up to him and yanked his ass out. blow that whole America or GTFO attitude out your ass and shut the fuck up....not to mention the reliability of em, i could go all day!

Thanks for the compliments. I remember my older brother had a Toyota 4wd back in the day and would routinely pull "real" trucks out of the mud. And it was only a 4cyl. I wish we could get the older diesel Hilux over here! That would be awesome! Does anyone know the best way to clean the wheels up with minimum effort? They appear to be aluminum. Something like this:

I miss my old rust bucket. Her frame and body were so full of holes swiss cheese doesn't even begin to describe it. Coupled with the 3.Slow and terrible IFS up front and I felt it was time to retire her to the scrap heep. Thing would go anywhere though.
I've seen guys pull out a 18' 4 winns speed boat out of the water up a steep ramp with their older Hiluxes. They are more then capable of pulling a stopping a larger boat.
As the Aussies deffiene it, a truck is a 2.5 ton or more U-Haul type truck. Anything less is considered a Ute. Hell, people even call an SUV a truck. The only thing that isn't a truck is a unibody front wheel drive vehicle. Ie the Honda Ridgeline. Anything RWD with a solid rear axle, and body on frame is a truck.
Back to your awesome find, I love it. Makes me miss mine a little. You need to get yourself a nice solid front axle for that beast. Pop a marlin crawler case into there with a 4.7 lo gear and a proper set of tires (BFG KM2, Goodyear MT/R, BFG A/T) and that thing will go anywhere you want it to.

I'm on my 5th Yota and love these trucks. I DD an Fj Cruiser that is more than capable with 4wd and rear locker. I've also owned my fair share of 1/2, 3/4, and 1 ton Chevy's and its all about what your looking for out of a truck. That's it.Originally posted by Simon SWhen a dream is a dream for too long - it becomes a fantasy..
