YAY; Bet you've never done THIS before

Well, after swapping injectors, i went out to have a nice drive in my car(havent drivin it in a week or two) and while out cruisin my car suddenly started to run like shit(AGAIN) so i figured "whatever, ill just put it back in teh garage" so when I got back home, I popped off the valve cover, to see my #6 Intake Cam Lobe BROKEN. yup, thats right, the whole right side of the lobe chunked off. The cam WAS a schrick 272, but now its a nice pile of shit. I think it will make a nice paper weight or door stop.

I'm pretty excited, as this is JUST what I needed.

Welp, Time to go see whatelse I can break!

PS: I'll try and get some pictures

I've seen it before too, but on a Shelby 427. Took out 4 or 5 cam lobes at once. I guess my awesome high power m20 just couldnt take it!

I'd take it to school and have UTI give u $10 for it, since that's all they're 'liable' for... just make up an RO and say some idiot messed with it and you forgot his name....free meal for a UTI student ;)

thats a bummer man. can't say your the first tho... thats why i went with a regrind on my original cams. they have a higher nickle content and are in turn stronger. i believe its nickle...

warped head? I don't think cams break very often. breaking a shrick cam would suck, $600 down the tubes..

pictures of how it broke? I'll have to snap some of my cam with the lobes wiped down about 2-3 mils.

I broke a rocker arm before, snapped it at the folcrom point for cyl #3, but that was in my l-block m30 build. Same rocker arms though, so anything is possible. I have yet to see a cam lobe break off, but when you get the cam out, drop it on the gorund from 3ft and watch it snap right in half... I had fun with this in class one day, I broke 3 junk cams I had just for kicks. It is surprizing how brittle camshafts really are.

Ouch, my e30 empathy gland is hurting.

"Having won more road races than any other model in history, the E30 M3 is considered by many to be the world's most successful road race car." - Simply put, E30s kick ass.
