So I find a decent e30 on CL, guy lies about where he got it from...

so I call they guy and ask him about the car, and he tells me he got it from a doctor who owed him money, etc etc

I google the VIN and see he got it from an auction for like $400 bucks.

Not a big deal really, I just hate being lied to and I feel bad for all the other people he lies to when he sells cars.

Id like to get the car for $800 as long as everything checks out, and Id also like to confront him about lying, but I dont think thats necessarily going to help me get my asking price

    thoughts?

(I need an auto for the gf and little brother)

Well other than the dent in the quarter panel it doesn't look like a bad car but
He did lie to you for no real reason so I would take every thing he says with a grain of salt other than that look over the car really well and that looks like an 800-1000$ car

I'm not surprised, he probably didn't want to advertise it came from an insurance auction knowing people would low ball him. Although shady, it could be a good deal. Just pull a Rick Henderson on him.

great looking car. I pay 2k and take it off your hands if you dont hurry lol.

I dont blame him for making up a story of where he got it from. Even if the car was in exellent condition with 30k original miles, it would be hard for any body to sell it. If you go around telling every body you got the car of an auction for 400 bucks That my friend would kill the sale. Just drive it take it for a spin check for rust and respect the man asking price. Although it doent hurt to low ball him to 800..

Well, if he is a dealer posing as a private seller, that's illegal in at least some states.

I generally dont like lowballing people ever.

I also dont like dealing with liars!

I think 800 is fair though

That's just how it works. I tried buying a 1988 for $1200, but I knew he bought it off a auction for around $800. Someone snatched it before I could even go look at it.

If you like it, buy it and move on. It wont be the last time you buy something w/o being lied to for their gain. At least you know the truth now.

                          Btw, nice start!

I already have an e30 lol, its just a project for now.

I need this car so I can have something to drive around while I do my m30 swap

then its turboooooo time and finally a cosmetic overhaul

final product should have 350-400hp and look almost exactly like this

or like this, as much as I like the pic below, the top ones just speak to me in a different way
