Hmm, fair enough. Just pushes me further towards picking up even an older Hans system soon rather than later. Physically, It makes sense. I've just never heard of any lower speed instances of it. Thanks for the heads up.

      How does a HANS work..?

basically the straps stop your head from whiplashing forward and you get a nice bruise on your forehead instead. Forehead bruise > neck injury.

Way back when, my harness' were bolted to the stock rear seat belt mounts(was that way when I got the car, didn't think anything of it). But while at an SCCA teen driving school thing, after letting me drift the skid pad ( :D ) he warned me about spinal compression, so needless to say, the first thing I did when I got back home was mount them in a spot for correct angle! To I do generally appreciate advice in that sector, as much as everyone on here thinks I'm a stupid teenager. Actually, I am, and that's why I need the advice

People have been driving, crashing etc for ever and ever in caged cars without a hans. And at way more than 10 mph. they didnt all break their necks.

I was actually serious, harness + no neck restraint = you snap your neck in half, even in a 10mph contact.
ummm.... no. Otherwise every stock car driver from 1968 to 1995 died on their first impact.

Now, it IS a good idea, as the physics of a sudden stoppy ARE hard on the old spinal column
(it breaks when you stretch it too far, then your body shuts down because it has no brain attached)
but harnesses don't instantly cause that. ANd seatbelts can, too-
that's why airbags have saved so many more people on the street.
Any sudden decel can do it, but it takes more than 10mph, usually.

I punted a wall at 90 with no HANS and really really wish I'd had one- but it didn't
              kill me.

And in 1968, you could park 2 2002's in the space that the Lincoln Continental pulled out of.
But death was a bit more common, too...

As to roll bar in street car- well, if you expect to pancake or get t- boned in the
b- pillar, it might help some. But if you barrel- roll it might do your noggin if it's too
far forward. So I'd say it's probably not the worst idea, but also not the best.

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

Does your car see an actual track at high speed? Then yes, a roll bar or cage is advised, but as a system with harnesses and fixed back seats and a helmet. All or nothing.

If your car is a daily driver and you want a roll bar to drop panties and pose at car meets, you're retarded. People will figure out VERY quickly that you don't track the car and you'll be laughed at.
