1987 Volvo 240.....hating life.

Long story short, overdrive went out. He replaced the OD relay. I replaced the solenoid and wiring. Fuse is good. Still no OD.

WTF?

I hear the relay behind the dash click too.

I really, really hate this car.

Any thoughts?

This hulk of Swedish metal is taking up the lift...where my e24 should be.

Lol, it's not mine. I'd never get one unless it was a wagon and a 5sp. I'm just working on this thing for a friend and had planned on putting my 6er up to start taking the 30 year old suspension apart....but NOOOOOOO. Foiled by a Volvo.

those OD units are trash, mine used to slip in and out of OD all the time on the highway when it encountered any sort of load (hill etc.)

As in the wiring going up the shifter itself?

I replaced the wire going to the solenoid. It was completely stripped.

I read that after putting a new solenoid in it you have to drive it. There's no tach in this car too. I just had it up on the lift and let it run through the gears, but when I'd hit the OD button the light would come on, relay would click, but I'd hear and feel no change in the engine noise.

....then the goddamn manual window decided it didn't want to go back up so the M3 had to sit outside in the thunderstorm last night. :hitler: I was livid.

is this the 4speed manual with push button OD?

mine went in my 740turbo, but replaced the selonoid with a j/yard pick and was working fine again...
it's not that complicated of an affair untless there is something mechanically binding it to no longer move

No, it's a 3sp auto, IIRC.

Word. Are 940s the same setup as the 240s? Seems most of the search results roll up 940s.

or, use the factory b230 engine, get a t5 adaptor plate and toss on a cheap ford t5 transmission.

Disconnect the solenoid. See if it works. Without it connected, it's the same as the IPD blockoff. takes the button out of the mix, too.
