Why not modify the strut arm thing so it locks and supports the hood sans strut?

Might not help, but if you remove the strut, the hood will open all the way and
                  rest on the grills.

                  I do it that way.

Have you tried brand new stock shock?

Add another shock and mount to the drivers side.

I know the strut on my mk4 wagon was a bamf, but it was longer than an e30 one.... It was able to hold up the hatch though, maybe a strut from an mk1 rabbit?

wow, clean work. Try e36 or e28. Will have to modify mounting to points but they are beefier.

Just get a piece of metal the length of a fully extended strut. Drill two holes, one in each end, and use that to hold it?

E32 struts are pretty beefy. I put them on my e28 and the hood opens straight up, but IDK how the extra length would work on an e30.

hmmm, it looks to be a fairly new strut... idk maybe i should order a brand new one and see if its the strut first.. i dont think it is but i guess it could be.

anyone know where to buy a genuine one?.. link would be nice!
