I'd advise getting/trying an OE strut first. (from blunttech)

Original strut should be pretty beat per age.
Fwiw, I replaced my original, worn strut with a "worldpac" unit - and that piece was as bad as the worn original.

Now that I think of it - the only reason I replaced the strut was because the hood would pop upward in a hard manner when release was triggered. i.e. the strut has nothing to do with how the hood is 'held up'. Doesn't the support linkage do that?

If I were in your shoes, I'd get an OE strut from blunttech - then see about fabbing/installing a second support linkage on the driver's side.

Cool swap btw.. for some reason reminds me of something like a '67 Nova - that handles a WHOLE lot better..

edit: disregard some of that, because, yeah – the strut does do some ‘holding up’ once [a stock] hood reaches a balance point per linkage.

And yeah – you’re working with a heavier hood there.. I guess I’d look into a dual (L & R) linkage and fresh OE struts to both combat additional weight and to keep any twisting forces at minimum..

                          Successful troll is successful.

Also, 388? Damn! You got me beat by 82ci :(

Also, beautiful work. You wouldn't happen to have any photos or anything of how you did the hood? I'm looking to do something like that so I can run a bigger filter.

                          Go here be happy!

I think he bought it like that, I was wondering the same thing as I am about to embark on a cowl project. I have an idea of how I'll go about...I think.

                            Nice car OP!

Check out www.Mcmaster.com. They sell gas struts in pretty much any size. I'm sure you could find one there.
