I don't think it's laziness. I think it's more that the basic person in the "herd" has not concept of what a car does or should feel like.

When I worked at a shop, I used to get "diag" complaints. Like diag "noise". I'd go and ask the customer about it. "It makes noise." I'd have to ask,"when, where, how fast?" Then I'd get this answer, more than a couple times a month, "You're the mechanic, figure it out."

Or solving the "cluster lights are out", with the dimmer switch.

it is pretty interesting. i sell motorcycles, when people dont want to do a test ride it really throws me off. a lot of money to just say "oops" with.

To me not test riding a motorcycle doesn't make sense. I don't ride myself. But I have ridden dirtbikes and quads, how would you know if the bike "fits" otherwise?

2 out of 3 people were ready to give me cash in hand without a test drive for my e30; the other guy didn't have cash, so I denied it to him.

A couple kids from my Youth group where taken for a ride in a Prius. They were hiding because they didn't want people to see them in it! They also mentioned the driver saying,"It handles better than a BMW." From the Prius's I've driven I doubt it could handle better than my 318is back when it had tired stock suspension.
