    The ones that got away.

Post stories of cars you intended to buy but either didn't have the money at the time or whatever else happened and your now kicking yourself for not jumping on it at the moment.

    here goes,
I had owned my 318is for about 2years and was gonna get my windshield replaced at a small shop. I had saw the owner worked on bimmers and had a few e30s he was parting out. He also bought alot of cars so I would visit him once in a while to see what he had. Then one day I saw a MINT condition red mtech with a hardtop for sale for $9500. The car was in amazing condition. All the panels inside were leatherwrapped, including the ebrake console. The soft top had never been used since the hardtop was in place. Seats were black with the evo cloth center! The mtech was sitting in a barn for a few years until the owner found it. I tried to bargain on the price but he wouldn't budge. I didn't have the money at the time and thought about trading my 318is for it as a partial payment, but decided to wait. After a couple of months I wanted to get another e30 but still wasn't serious. I went back to the shop and saw that the mtech was still there! I knew I had to have it so went to the bank asking for a car loan. No luck since they wouldn't fund a car that was 12 years old. Another month went by and it was summer now. I found out about capital one's autofinance and applied and got a check for whatever I wanted to buy. So I went with check in hand ready to buy the most beautiful e30 I've seen in person and found out that it was sold a couple weeks ago and the current owner put DUBS on it and is asking 20k. Thanks for reading. I'm still kicking myself today.

First car I went to look at was an unregistered, track-prepped Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV (105 series). Had big flares, 16in Minilite rims, bright yellow, new interior, race-tuned twin-Weber 2L, hi-comp ratio, BIIIG cams, fat exhaust, rebuilt gearbox, LSD, etc etc... Dad took it for a drive (I was 15) and he said, "I know its your cash, but I WILL NOT let you buy that. You WILL kill yourself!!" But then he let me buy a 1975 Holden GTS Monaro with a worked V8!!!

Had a deposit down on a Mitsubishi Lancer GSR that had copped the full Evo drivetrain/interior/aesthetic conversion, plus carbon bonnet etc, 17in Volk wheels, Brembos, etc... Making 245kW @ all 4-wheels on pump fuel too :D

Watched the dude write it off the night before I was to pick it up. He was leaving the popular cruise spot near me as he avoided a cop chasing some dickweed who dropped a squeelie... he swerved to miss the cop @ 60km/h, tank-slapped into a power pole :(

After that, I spoke to a mate who imports Jap cars about purchasing a car off him.... I like a S6 RX-7 he had, but it was stolen off the lot (along with a sexy R33 Series 2 GTS-t Skyline). Never had a deposit down or drove em so I dunno if they would have ever evenutated.

Lately, I got stooged on a Novated Lease deal for a company car, meaning i had to pass an awesome deal up on a near-new Holden Calais. :(

When I was 17, I was going to buy an Oh so sweet 2002 (square tail light model). It belonged to a friend of mine. Just days before we did the deal, he got t-boned in it. Totalled out.

I wound up buying my Supra instead. Oh well.

When I was searching to buy my e30 I ran across a beautiful late model 325is. I believe it was a 90 or 91. It was black with a grey sport interior that even had heated sport seats. The thing was beautiful. I called on it early in the week (some time around Wednesday) and the lady on the phone told me to call back that weekend. Saturday morning a call to see if I can come take a look and she informs me that it was already sold. I called at 10am on the day she told me to and it was sold! I later found out it had been sold to this kid names Chris Isar (some of you may have heard of him ;) ). His daddy bought it for him to replace the one he had backed into a mail box and later drove off a cliff or something. I think it has been well taken care of though. I have hear that the fenders are all bent up because his wheels are too big, the back of it is a bit messed up becasue his dad backed into it, and just the other day some kids threw a bunch of rocks at it and broke the driver's side window.

I just passed on a mint (better than showroom new mint) 88 fiero GT. Yellow, 5sp sunroof all the options but T-tops. Had 15,500 miles on it from the orginal owner. This dude was nit pickey and it had sat in his garage its whole life, never sceen snow, rain anthing. He wanted 8 grand (a steal if you know anthing about fieros) but my brother bought it with out even seeing it. He sent me up a check and the rest is history.

Mine will make everyone on this board cry like I did (and still do).

While I still owned my first e30 (325i coupe, auto), I was looking for a 5-speed 325is. I found an ad in the local paper for an '88 white M3; it was right down the road from me so I checked it out (about two years ago). It was sad...seats were gone and replaced with cheap, goofy ones, remains of a "boom" stereo were still there, lower front valence was literally screwed on, odometer didn't work and was stopped at 186,000 miles, you couldn't shift into third without a grind. Okay, so not a real nice example.

He was asking $3200, but would "talk" about an offer. I didn't, and still want to kill myself now. I'm the dumbest person on this board or any other. Please, don't look at me, I'm hideous.

I had my eye on an 88 m6 for a while...interior was beat and exterior had some surface rust...and the car blew a coolant hose when I drove it but the car wasn't too bad all around. A new set of hoses and a PS belt and the thing was back on the road...he only wanted 3k for it...still kinda wish I pulled the trigger on the deal
