the fan is mechanical and is connected to the pulley that drives the water pump. so no belt on that pulley means no fan either. dont drive it until you have a belt, then try it. you may have toasted your head gasket though.
You really think the headgasket would be shot from 60 seconds in the red???

i dont see oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil... yet..

I wonder if this is the dreaded M42 timing case profile gasket failure?

Would a water pump failure cause the belt to break in half? And how hard are they to replace?

ha - I had a fan belt fail.. was lucky to discover it quick - and was also lucky to be able to call a friend and have him pick up a belt at a parts store and run it out to me.

The funny part was that the belt had only like 1K miles on it - but it was one of the first things I replaced on the car - so by the time I was "done" working on it and driving it, it was 6+ years old.

..also, I noted a walnut in my engine bay at the time - which leads me to believe a critter of some sort had possibly munched on the belt. In any case - I keep a spare belt in the trunk now. For an $8 part - the car kinda needs one to run and drive..

If the bearing in the WP failed the belt could of broke. And it would be leaking coolant .

M42 waterpump is cake to do.

Worse case scenerio the profile gasket blew. Theyve been known to just go at once and dump coolant.

I made a serpentine belt out of duct tape one time on the side of the road. Got me to a parts store
