After installing my fuel pump a few days ago, both my GF and I realized how much more powerful and SMOOTH the car has become.
Years ago I had the fuel injectors rebuilt and flow testd. They were all the same with new pintles and o rings installed, but it did little to help the cars performance.
After replacing every other tune up component in the car, I really was at a loss as to why the car would stumble ever-so-slightly (esp. when cold) and also experienced hard starting. It also didn't idle that smooth. Sure the Cap, rotor, wires and plugs with new fuel and air filters seemed to help SLIGHTLY, the car just seemed so damn primitive and unrefined to drive. It really wasnt' a car I would want to drive for any extended distance (over 30 minutes or so.)
My fuel pump really wasn't bad at all. Sure I had no record to it's age, and it NEVER let me down, it was the only other thing that was really aged in the running peripheral systems on the car.
So I can honestly say that given the price of the pump (80 on sale, regular 160ish at autopartsonlinecanada.com) it was a no brainer.
Now I also dont' have to fear for the car running below half and overheating the pump.
In summary, i'm finding I love this old ride the more and more I drive it. Interesting as I really wasn't keen on keeping it very long.
