That's very true. I'm infinitely more mechanically adept than I was when I bought my first e30 (which is a year ago yesterday). However, a simple google search would tell you what a valve adjustment is. If you're not willing to put in that kind of effort, you're not gonna be willing to do the necessary maintenance on these kind of cars.

i don't think you're quite in a position to get all high-horsey on this guy. i'm sure if one of us took the effort to dig back we could find a noob post or twelve from when you started.

Take it for a test drive, if it doesn't feel right then don't get it. I've seen e30's with 300,000+ mileage run better than e30's with < 100,000 mileage.

Then why are there so many pointless threads on r3v about people asking about stuff that has already been done/answered? I agree that everybody does have a starting point, but that doesn't mean you can't own an e30. You've gotta start somewhere...so why not start here? A car with a great history & background and most of all, a fantastic support group. That sounds like the place to be in my opinion:D

And for the record, my car had 257,6XX miles put on it before the year 2000. After that it sat and died for ten years. Anything can be made to last.

THIS, i test drove a 1991 325i with 162xx on the clock, ran like dog shit brakes barley worked interior was trash.

test drove my current e30 1986 325es, had 194xx on an odo that stopped working almost a year ago so i would say 240xx, pulled strong, brakes where mint as was the interior.

I bought a $500 1991 e30 with over 310k on it, did a timing belt, valve adjustment, and DD'd it until I traded it for a 'vert.

This was all on a whim. Wasn't looking for an e30 or anything.

I auto-xd that thing to 7k at least once a month. Didn't leak a drop or anything.

this is my 86 es yesterday I drive it hard every day. And yes change the timmimg belt then you'll be fine.

There's a LOT of E30s with over 200k miles, mine included. Personally, I don't really pay attention to the miles a car has, but rather the maintenance. Look for a well maintained e30, and forget about the mileage.

And if you're asking what a valve adjustment is, you need to do a lot more reading before you even think about buying.

+1. I doubt someone with no ability/motivation to find simple information by himself would actually care to maintain e30 or any cars that need bit more attention than just get in and drive.
