I believe this is the budget option to a pony ... like 316 is to M3.

They wanted in on the SUV market and gave us the X5. Then they wanted in on the small SUV market and gave us the X3. And then they wanted in on the high-performance-fastback-SUV market and gave us the X6M. Alright. So now BMW wants in on the luxury FWD econobox market, fine.

It's not the end of the world yet. I'm just getting a little weary of this focus-group mentality taking effect at BMW.

Speak for yourself, e30 forum does not make all of us like you.

As for BMW rear-wheel-drive purists, BMW says there may not be so many after all, at least among its small-car enthusiasts. Chief Executive Norbert Reithofer said a survey of BMW 1 Series drivers two years ago showed four out of five already thought their car was front-wheel-drive.
    I lol'd ... I lol'd long and hard...

    I hope the next M3 is a FWD, 4-door only, twin turbo'd v6... and it can't weigh less than 1700 kg's.

Then I would finally have a legit reason to kill myself.
