Question concerning picking up/shipping a car

What would you do? Ship a car insured for its full value from Connecticut to NC for ~$600, or fly 7.5hours to CT, stay over a night, and drive it back for $450-500 including costs of food, gas, and a hotel stay? The drive back is ~13 hours and roughly 650 miles.

I'm trying to figure if the "adventure" of driving it home is worth it. I'd have a wingman with me, we could possibly split the driving duty if it got too tiring.

Ship it...you lose 100 bucks for 24 hours of your time...and if something goes wrong on a long drive, you tow it anyway. AAA only goes 5 miles or something like that.

I drive 700 miles all in Mexico and over 200 of which are on shitty one lane in each direction Mexican "roads" in 10-12 hours I am sure you can do 650 in much less. I think the major questions are do you have the time, will the car make it and are you up for a road trip?

I'd do it if the cost is close and teh answers to the questions are yes.

I'm pretty confident in the car, I have the time, and I'm always up for a road trip, but this might be easier to just ship it...

If you have to stay in a hotel over a 13 hour trip yer a panzy. :D I'd say go up and get it. It shouldn't cost 450 bux to get it back to yer house if its only 650 miles. I'd figure 2 to 3 tanks of gas, some Vivarin and a boat load of coffee only costs 100 bux tops. 200 if you do the round trip thing.... in which case I'd sleep in the car.

Just realized you are talkin bout flyin up.... BUMP THAT! Greyhound is there for a reason my friend. Have you checked Amtrak rates lately? Much cheaper ways of doing this.....

The fares for me and my friend to fly would be $251, because I can buy a ticket and get him a buddy pass as long as the flight isn't booked solid (I have multiple relatives that work with USAirways). The train fare would be $260ish and take twice as long, plus it'd be a damn train.

I drove from San Diego to Seattle in 1 day. Took something like 19 hours.

Guys, the length of the drive is not the problem. The problem is the shortest trip there would be 7 and a half hours.

Do you think it'd be easier to fly up on a night, stay in a hotel, and leave the next morning?

That was the only other problem with flying, winter weather... if I hit snow in Atlanta or Philly I'm screwed.

drive it. I flew to atlanta and drove 4500 miles to get a car, you can make the 700 mile trip. Stay in a hostle, that'll bring your cost down.

Have fun man. That was life is about.

                      Seriously.

I think it is going to be the fly up/road trip back, I'd like to see some parts of the country in a car that I've only seen at 1am on a bus or in an airplane.

If you have the time and a willing friend, go for the road trip. I took a trip 500 up North [and 500 back] with 2 friends to pick up a school bus one of them was buying. The trip was a LOT of fun and I am very glad I did it. Just make sure the car is protected [front end style] on the way back.

                          Have fun

Considering the condition the paint on this car is in, you can count on a whole roll of painter's tape being all over the front end.

                            I'll take pictures. :)
