    Bent AFM lip, wtf?

Car was idling and running fine, but I took the afm/airbox off to change the filter (for the first time under my ownership) and this is what I found.

How the hell does my E30 Idle so well with this massive hole/bent lip

This reminds me a lot of when I first got my 2002. I got it all registered and inspected (kind of), and drove it for a couple days, but finally got a chance to look it over. The idle was pretty rough but it drove okay. Turns out the Weber carburetor was so loose, I could shake it back and forth by hand.

It looks like a clean bend to, the metal in that spot is strong I dont even either.

I drove it on a 2500 mile trip like this

Yeah haha it was running perfectly. Time to hit up the yard or upgrade. I think the m30 ones bolt right up.

Overtightening the clamp or intentional use of a tool to bend that portion of the lip in. Your ECU really did a good job of tuning out the increase of air that is sucking by if your idle was not noticibly FUBAR.
