    school me on turbo m20

few things to note, car is a auto convertible.
my goals are pretty simple, DD the car, be able to put the pedal down on more expensive cars(ie freeway pulls, rolling 20/60), more so drag racing, some spirited back roads action.

not sure what power level i'd need. i read somewhere 300 at the wheels in an e30 is more than enough, anyone knwo from experience want to chim in.

want to keep it pretty simple, o-ringed block, head studs and a hg. i like megasquirt but anything wrong with useing a chip and rrfpr?

keep it auto or throw a 5sp in it? i saw kamotors videos and that thing makes me want to keep it auto... input?

so any wisdom here would be great, and yes i will keep useing the search function.

The auto will go out fast depending on the way you drive it. Mine lasted 2 months before my tq converter started smoking during normal driving. At 300whp you won't need to oring the block. And depending on how your head gasket is right now, you can get away with swapping in the arps one at a time and use the hg you have... Boost level will depend on the turbo you use, with the Hx35 around 12psi with a good tune will take you to 300whp. And for ecu, go with megasquirt hands down. Don't mess with miller maf and war chip for boost...
If I were you I'd go
    -5 speed swap
-megasquirt, get use to tuning cause its not that easy
    -turbo swap
    In that order, good luck!!

Kamotors no longer has an auto. Also a chip and rrfpr is not a good solution. You can make way more power with MS and have a more reliable running engine.

i think you had good ideas coming into this thread.

          essentials in my opinion:

full maintenance regimen (mounts, guibo, center support bearing, suspension, brakes, engine maintenance)
o-ringed block, stock HG, ARP head studs
get a mason-tech or similar lower chassis x-brace and a strut bar.. higher power in a convertible = chassis flex
          manual swap, uprated clutch
get the car tuned and running on MS (normally aspirated) first
          then turbo

for 300 whp, i think you'd need around 1 bar boost.

it is expensive to do it correctly and make it reliable. exactly why I pulled my crap back off.

For 300whp you don't need to o ring the block. I'm running, 14 psi on stock hg and arp studs... Have cranked it up to 19... A good tune and you won't destroy head gaskets.

This is something i have been toying with. However I don't want 300rwhp. More like 225. So to piggyback this thread, if a stock car makes 150 at the wheels (roughly) what would be needed to add about 75 more horses? I feel like this wouldn't require anything crazy and would be suitable as a dd (kid carrier)

I know there's many different setups, but what's the average cost for a turbo system making 300hp?

I spent 2k... If I had a professional tune I'd be making well over 300whp.

Find deals, might take longer but its worth it
