Looking for a family car to fit 3 kids, e34 or e38?

Hi Everyone, I am looking for some ideas. I am looking for a family car and it needs to be able to fit 3 kids in the back comfortably. Been looking at e34's and e38's. I really like the look of them and looking for a BMW. Would like it to get decent gas mileage also. Also want to make sure maintenance isn't going to break the bank.
    Thanks

For the money...e39 528i 5 speed. Perfect combination of the two cars you mentioned. E39 is essentially a newer, yet slightly smaller E38 on the inside. Looks pretty damn good on the outside as well and easily upgraded by comparison.

An E39 would be a good family car. There is quite a bit of leg room even for tall passengers.

E34 in stick. If it has to be auto, go with an E39.

              I second this.

I would like to pick up an E38 myself.

The E38 is a timeless design.

                  e38 if fuel isn't an issue, E34 if its a 6 cylinder, E39 if you don't want an E34.

E38 will cost you a grip and a half to keep running if your taking it to a shop, and parts are expensive. Its not like taking care of an e30. My dads e38 just sits now due to being so expensive. I'd go 5 series.

That is what I am afraid of with an e38. I love the way they look and the room of a 740il but since I can't do a lot of the work my self I am going to look into the different 5 series. I really like the older look of the e34 but will look into the e39. I haven't considered the e39's before so I don't know to much about them.

Is this going to solely be an around-town car, or will it see long trips? Sitting with 3 people in a row is fairly uncomfortable even if there is a bit of space.
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

e34 is pretty spacious inside, but the autos do suck.

If you do get an e34 auto atleast get a 535ia

If your kids need booster seats forget about an e39. I had one and its way too small back there. It was even too small for a rear facing child seat. If you don't have kids that are less than, lets say 6 years old, you have no idea how much space their stuff takes up.

e34 fits 3 normal sized adults pretty comfortably in the back, let alone kids.
