Perhaps a novelty for someone that drives more than 300 miles a day on a regular basis. They have supercharger stations that charge the car in 30 minutes. I take at least that much of a break on long road trips. They are developing charging stations across the country so one can drive from NY to LA with no range anxiety. It would definitely be an acceptable car for 95% of people that can afford it.

I fall into that group, when I am at work, I can put upwards of 400 miles a day on my work truck. Normally around the 250ish range though. Normally in the middle of nowhere, just like where I live as well in the middle of no where and we have plenty of people that can afford them where I live.

Are these supper fast charging stations going to be sometihng that will charge every production E.V. out there, and any one can use them, or are they going to be Tesla exclusive???? I assume exclusive , so you have to be a richer to have one of these wonder machines. Yeah I know free market costs will come down and what not, but we are still a decade or more away from a practial common mans E.V. that will offer anything close to conventional

        Sounds familiar.

Anyone see Donald Sadoway on Colbert?

We’ve gotten a pretty decent stream of views in the past couple days from people googling “liquid metal battery” or “donald sadoway battery” or “ambri” or something along those lines. Given that there wasn’t any recent news on Donald Sadoway’s liquid metal battery (now being developed under the company name ... [continued]

The latest news in this story is that Sadoway’s team has received $15 million ... [continued]

Why do you need a fucking 17" screen in a car? This is why we have so many crashes. Too many damn gizmos distracting us.

By the time we reach charging systems in front of McDonalds, the charging system will be standardized just like today's fuel pumps.

Nissan has been talking about this same setup for a while. Everything in the Auto industry becomes standardized so that things can be interchanged. OBD, Fuel pumps, ect.

Mainly because it replaces knobs and switches and controls nearly everything in the car. The sound system is pretty cool too. The fade control is a top view interior picture of the car and you just drag a dot to where in the car you want the center of the sound to be. It also has a system where you can manually override the suspension ride height. It also has clarity as good as the IPad. I will say that the fact you can have a full website displayed while you drive could be a distraction if you used it for that.

Thats going to change right quick and in a hurry when the EV gets a little more popular. You are not paying any road use taxes on EVs YET, many states are trying to figure out the best way to charge for them.

The production of gasoline consumes more electricity per mile than driving on grid power alone. If each electric car replaced a gasoline fueled car it would reduce total grid electricity consumption.

how does that address the road use taxes not being paid by EV drivers??? To the tune of 1/2 cent to 1.2 cents per mile for gas powered, and 1/2 cent to more than 2 cents per mile for diesel powered.

Your article is miss leading, when you use all that electricity to refine crude, you are also getting Diesel, home heating oil, kero, Jet fuel, butane, LP, propane, and many other solvent products, Engine, trans, gear, utility oils, brake fluids, and many other lubes, primary components in 99% of all plastics, and many many other every day products that you would never dream have petroleum in them. All are created when you refine crude. Nice try on the spin by omission, with out that oil refining your EV would not be possible either

Read a stat the other day, that it takes something like 11000 GWh a year to produce all the gas for CA form hole to tank. It would be enough to power roughly 4 million full function EV cars for the same time period..............

Last time I checked there are WAY more than 4 million people with cars in CA.

Yes the EV thing works on the small scale, if your individual needs allow it. But its not yet practical for much of the population in the USA. Also you add all that extra demand to the power grid, ahhh our power infrastructure is very very old and would need some major upgrading by and large to handle all that extra high amp current draw.
