Thanks George. I'm surprised you don't have an e-e30. I'd love to pull off a DIY electric car, in fact, my friend has a TVR 280i sitting in his driveway that think would be a neat candidate. However, all things considered, I'd be hard pressed to not buy a Zero Motorcycle.

ha! If I did an electric conversion I'd pick something like a '57 speedster replica. Something nice and light.

George.... if you ever make it down here and the planets align. You'll have to meet up with Mike and his 800hp electric E9. You're both crazy

Its actually a toned-down version of his last setup (2000ft/lbs of torque tends to bend a chassis).

Ive been wanting to build my own EV car for a few years now and I cant justify the cost with the available battery power. I'll be on the sidelines for now waiting for the cost of the batteries to drop. Then Im in like Flynn.

Dealerships????? Direct sales means Manufacturer to Consumer, in the case of Texas and Virginia, they are protecting the businesses that currently sell cars from manufacturer to customer, which would be the dealership or used car dealer.

Well, they certainly beat your 5 minute standard (can swap 3 Model S's in that time). And where one can have it done depends on where they (or also potentially a third party operator) decide to have this:

Based on his comments at a Tesla technical demonstration in California last night, Elon Musk doesn't just want the act of recharging his cars to be like filling up a gas tank. He wants it to be better.

At its design studio near Los Angeles on Thursday, Musk showed off the company's new battery-swapping technology, which they claim switches out the depleted battery on a Model S for a fully charged one in a mere 90 seconds.
Musk said it will be like driving in to a car wash, where the driver never has to step out of the car. He said it gives the customer two choices when they pull into a Supercharger station — which he says should just be called a "Tesla station" — you have the choice of Supercharger, which will always be free, or the battery swap station.

"The only decision you need to make when you come to one of our Tesla stations is, do you prefer faster or free?" Musk asked.

Forbes said that if owners opt for "faster," it will cost about the same as 15 gallons of gas, depending on the local rate. You pay using a credit card Tesla keeps on file.
It would probably be wise to not bet against a brilliant rocket surgeon worth ~$3B from accomplishing what he seeks out to do.

Done. Battery Swap in 90 Seconds, fully automated.

I work for Tesla, so I get to drive them every day. It is truly an awesome car!

Im looking at maybe purchasing an EV converted Karmann Ghia, its currently a 108V setup and can run up to 144V. I am curious if you guys know which Lithium batteries would be the best to go with. Winston seems to be the most expensive, but Sinopoly looks similar but much cheaper. Any thoughts?

wishing I'd bought more Tesla stock this December. Dang. I'd bought it previously at around $22, sold at $40, it dropped back to around $25, and then I never got back in..
