    Buyer's Suspense

Okay so I was wondering if anyone has ever been in a similar situation when buying a car.

I sold my Jetta VR6 for some decent cash, on a whim that I could make it 5 hours out to Atlanta and buy a really good looking '89 325i. It was everything I was looking for: Semi-low mileage, 325i, late model, two doors, leather interior. It was even my preferred color, black. All for a decent price! $3500. I had been looking for the right car for months now.

So I ended up driving over to Atlanta with my uncle to hopefully buy the thing and drive it back. We planned to meet at 5, but we waited with no response form the guy until 9 at night. He shows up and explains the title is in both he AND his soon-to-be-ex-wife's name. And she won't let him sign it over.:hitler:

So I look the thing over, the paint is nice, no cracks in the dash, it's still completely stock & even has a full Magnaflow exhaust. Even the damn odometer is still ticking. Not bad! I just wanted to drive her home. However we talked about it and since he's a mechanic at Global BMW :) He can either ship it over here on a truck or just drive it out when the title can be changed to his name.

We talked for a long time and he seemed like a decent guy. He even took the ad down. I'm just getting SUPER anxious because I sold my car that I already really loved and risked it all for this thing! I have a feeling I'll never see it again but that's just me being negative.

Anyone ever take a gamble like this? Did it work out in the end? I feel like buyer's suspense is a common thing. You always picture some dude showing up RIGHT before you and snatching up the car!

I know the feeling. A few years ago a clean 535i e28 was on CL very close to me, it didn't run, was asking $500. I drove down with the $250 cash as a down payment until I could get the rest, I just wanted to make sure I got the car. I also didn't have anybody to help me tow it home so I was forced to get it the next day with my dad's truck.

I was pretty anxious for a while since I was dumb and didn't get a receipt from the guy, so he could have just kept the $250 and sold the car to somebody else. When I came back the next day he said had to turn down around a dozen calls, and he even had a guy drive well over an hour with a trailer to come pick it up but he had to turn him down too.

          Who is Spencer Burke?

& to E30 Wagen, I've had someone take a down payment and just sell the car to someone else. Such a shitty situation.

I'm in the same position right now. It's all under wraps, so keeping it vague; I just bought a non running car for a good price sight unseen. It was about to go to the wrecking yard and i made sure it didn't. The sellers now went on vacation and won't be back for 2 weeks so the car is currently sitting in their driveway. The car is a couple hours away so i can't actually view it. They have my money and have to wait for them to get back to get the title transferred into my name, then i get it towed back to my house.

            I feel your pain =/

                yeaaaa :/
he says he misses le e30 but he continues with the lexus.
it really saddens me, i dont see the attraction.
its a nice car dont get me wrong, but it lacks character and so much more that the e30 offers.

hes a member here who had a really clean e30 in socal that he modified ALOT and it was very well built, then he sold it and bought an is300 FTL.

This part is the bummer. Unfortunately, no telling what a pissed soon-to-be-ex-wife can or will do. One thing is certain, chicks getting divorced rarely do the right thing.

I hope you didn't pay for the car or leave a deposit, even with a receipt. I hope I don't sound like a jerk, but I've been in the game of life longer then most peeps on r3v. My advice is to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Keep looking for another car.

But I hope this one comes thru for you, it sounds like you really want it. Good luck.

Seriously man. He didn't know she'd pull that shit until we got there and he felt bad, but nevertheless. You are right. I'm still gonna keep an eye out for sure. Question is: How long can I go without wheels before I give up on finding the right E30 again? That's what I'm afraid of the most I think.

What?!? I had no idea. I remember him selling the blue E30 but i figured he'd buy another one.

                      Any links/pics to the IS300?

Sorry for the threadjack OP, you think he would have known beforehand that the title was not in his name?!? sounds suspicious.

Only suspense I get before buying something is a) are the people who owe me money going to pay me in time and b) will I be alive tomorrow or will I be in the hospital and my GF in jail fer her stabbing me for buying another car.

These are the things I worry about.
