Motor mounts decided to have a divorce.

Power steering pulley got cozy with lower rad hose.

1 roll of duct tape, a piece of carboard, and 4 hose clamps and I made it home.

I've done that before too. Auto -> manual swap happened right after that.

            Sweet.

When I was overhauling my front end at Charlie's last month we noticed both lower mounts didn't really exist anymore. Incredible there was no contact.

And you BETTER be around for when I break something on Fabi.

You going to the track next summer? When?

Replace the stockers with IE units. I've been to the track 3 times since I replaced them, they haven't moved. Do tranny mounts while you're at it.

I'll be easy to spot, I'll be the goof unloading all his tools from his trunk :).

I didn't get the money together in time to buy Christian's car, so I searched around and found Brian's.

while you guys are talking about alternators who makes a decent alternator for our cars? I would like to say BMW does but I dont want to know the price of one is. And what is the amp draw supposed to be with our cars off. Just Curious,

Also my car died in the middle of a busy intersection during rush hour and I was stuck their for 45 minutes before a cop showed up to push my car(by push I mean with his crown vic) because for some reason a cop can give you jump. then I was stuck in bumville nowhere kansas for 8 hours waiting for someone to bring me a charged battery. And I have blown 2 radiator hoses going over railroad tracks.

In my experience when an alternator goes out. The brushes are worn out and not making contact. You can buy new brushes for cheap and just replace them. I haven't had to do that on he E30 yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could replace it without taking the alternator out.

Well, my alternator's brushes were working great. The bushings themselves disentegrated. I've got the alternator I pulled out of the car right here, the shaft can move about 5-6mm front to back, and about the same amount side to side. I'd say they're toast.

As far as "brushes" being toast, yes, you can replace the voltage regulator (which has the brushes built into it) without too much trouble as long as you remove the airbox/AFM assembly. It's held on by two screws.

had my alternator fail twice. once at a busy intersection in downtown DC during morning rush hour. the second on a cold rainy night.

replaced it with an old alternator after the first incident. after the second i realized it was a bad alt ground cable. since then i've been fine.

                              i feel your pain

hey I was stranded in a hotel room, 250-300 miles from home, in the middle of South Dakota, after 7 state troopers caught us on the hwy which had been closed for over a day... we were trying to fix my front caliper which happened to fall off... and didn't have anyone to bring me parts.

This is after making it through the Utah mountains, and the Colorado mountains, in snow storms, with worn out Eagle F1's on back, and Falken Zeix on front.

So yes, it coulda been worse :)
