differences between early and late model production.

Can anyone confirm if early model cars were built with different materials. Im talking about body panel metal specifically.

Were late model cars treated with some sort of anti rust wash and early models were not? Was the type or grade of steel updated after a certain year?

I have read that the 318is had a galvernised body, but have heard that it was all late models. Conflicting information in the interwebz.

I think its true. Im looking at a late model and early model fender both bare metal the late model one is much more shiny while the early model one is much darker in color and much more prone to rust...

I believe this is true. I have some panels that just don't want to rust on my car that were taken off of late model cars.
