    Buying cars at the Mall?

So the other day I'm at the mall and see this:

I know that car companies like to sometimes display their cars out in the corridor but this is actually a store. Could this be the new trend of auto shopping...AT THE MALL??

It's a glorified corridor booth. It makes sense for companies like Tesla since they only have 3 models to choose from with limited production. Since they are a newish auto manf. they need to promote as much visibility to the masses to garner recognition and interest.

I love when they leave the window cracked and little slips of paper for your name, addy, phone #, etc so you can "win" the car.

No sir, you're just going to solicit my information....and you're Hyundai isn't worth winning anyways.

Precisely. Most states have very strict rules that prohibit off site transactions unless its like a parking lot of stadium sale for which they get a specific permit. There are disclaimers at Costco and usually at the malls that say you cannot buy the car there.

they are not actually dealerships. it's like a pavilion at an auto expo, where they show off the models. the actual purchasing is done online though and the dealer license is in California, where Tesla is headquartered.

this model is attracting a lot of the ire of the dealer lobby and several lawsuits have been levied against Tesla. it effectively circumvents the dealer network, allowing a customer relationship directly with the manufacturer... needless to say, a daring move but a welcome change. dealers are fucking nonsense. Elon Musk is a smart dude, and I'm sure he chose his battle wisely.
