First of all, see all those other forums below this one? Post in them. There are specific forums for each of your questions.

The reason to buy new control arms is because metal fatigues over the years. You can't install the new ball joints yourself anyways. Take the price of 2 ball joints and the money to have a shop press them in for you, and you'd be close to the $100 that each brand new control arm is anyways.

Buy the control arms.. it's worth it.

Check out FCP Groton online store. They have a really good price on the OEM Lemforder(sp?) control arms.

If this is the first time you are changing ball joints, change the whole arm, next time around change just the ball joints.

              Keep it slideways!!

The control arm will not wear out. BMW recently started selling the ball joints seperately. If you have a press and time is free its the way to go.

I used an air hammer/torch and a wheel bearing press to install them.
However it is much easier to have it done/buy the whole arm with ball joint
