A kit car with the heart of an E30...

Browsing through an issue of Kit Car Magazine (my father in law, Andrew and I own a 1929 Mercedes kit car), Andrew came across a pretty sweet looking car, with an even cooler engine! This prototype of the car uses the engine, drivetrain and suspension from an E30, but later versions will be able to use almost any engine. Very cool!

Very cool. Reminds me of the Wiesmann. Comes with an E46 M3 drivetrain.

            Why an M20?

            Is that better?

Why not? It's cheap, makes good power (considering how light the car is), and can be found very easily, from junkyards or from a wrecked car. Who knows, maybe the guy had an E30 laying around. I don't see what the big deal is, I think it's fucking cool.

Listen, i'm not taking anything away from it. Cool idea, imagined it cut costs tremendously...just wouldn't have opted for an M20. They don't even 'sound' all that great.

He prototyped it with an M20. Think about it, almost anything out there can fit in an engine bay if the M20 will fit in it. LS1s, 13Bs, SR20s, etc.

Seeing how easily so many different swaps have worked in an E30, I find it smart to engineer the car based around the basics of an E30's engine bay layout.

I remember seeing that on a Top Gear episode, and I think it's in the latest season (7)... anyone know what episode it is? I've looked through them and I can't find it. :(

It's season 6. One of the later episodes.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

Not to mention E30 suspensions are archaic. It's cool nonetheless.
