1000 mile drive Sav to RI

i will be driving from Savannah to Rhode Island the 28th. most likely via 95N for almost 1000 miles. what to bring (jumper cables, spare tire, jack, tool set, 10 cases of yuengling, pistol, camera etc) in order to make this trip safely/sanely? also any thing worth checking out along the way? more fun roads to take that may be shorter/bypasses/winding/less boring etc?

Might consider taking 81 to get away from the semi's and commuters. The road is alot more enjoyable and is away from the nightmares of DC and the Philly and the majority of NJ. While it may not be shorter it's 1075 vs 980 in distances.

^ Truth. that's my preferred route also.

I've only ever brought the basics with me on multiple several thousand mile trips and never had a problem. Enough tools to change maybe a water pump, belts, fuel pump, etc. anything more major than that and you're going to be fucked anyway. I keep a spare water pump/alt belt, and spare main and fuel pump relays in my car anyway, never added additional parts for a trip.

If you know your way around your car and know that everything is in good shape, you should be ok. How many times has your car broken down since your last oil change? None? Then nothing will probably happen on a 1000 mile trip either. That's the way I've always looked at it, haven't gotten bitten yet.

Keep your speed down in VA. Generally watch your speed everywhere, but you especially don't want to get bagged in VA.

I've taken my e30 to LA from Boston twice, and from Boston to Miami twice...never had anything more than basic tools, spare belts, coolant, and fuses. I keep it pretty well maintained but i agree with kway on basics only.

Drove my E30 1200 Miles to H20 and back. Only thing that happened was I blew a rear shock mount going through NY. Thankfully had a spare. It was a month old URO shock mount.

Basic tools. Extra fluids. Extra belts. Make sure you spare is full of air. Make sure your timing belt is in good condition. you should be good.

oh im born and raised 18 years in warwick RI. im just heading home for a few weeks so yea i know how shit the roads are there, takes 2 years to do 1 mile of road and its cracked and full of pot holes by the next winter. oh and every "repair" is actually just a small mountain of concrete in the road. definitely getting all tires ready to go as well as some spare fluids. belts i know would be important but im pretty shit at replacing them so hopefully everything goes well. im counting on everyone flying for the holiday season but am expecting traffic around new york as well as snow. thanks for the advice
