Is there anyone on the forum that is taking or completed a Mechanical Engineering degree... And how hard was it finding work?

How hard is it to find a job with a car company if you have a background in your universitys "formula" program

Tho I'm only in first year of a 6 year program... and not into the formula program... I'd still like to see if anyone accually "made" it...

I'm in my second year working towards an Associates degree in Mechanical engineering tech, and a dual major In Computer Aided design. When I'm done I'll have no prob finding a job here in town. There is a Major power Plant network here, and they come to our school every 2 years reqruiting new workers. Just keep working at it some of the classes get hard but nothing to bad. Right Now I'm taking Statics II and Machine design.

My bro is doing Mechanical engneering at NC Sate, and hes completed 2 years. Currrently he is working for Phillip Morris in Richmons, Va. Its his co-op and hes making 17 an hr. plus 400 a month living expenses. Not bad for someone without a degree. And he will have no trouble finding work once you get out.

I'll be starting my mechanical engineering degree next year at Purdue. I also plan on co-oping so I will complete my degree in about 5 years. I'll have no trouble getting a job, and you won't either, especially if you co-op.

Yeah our program contains 2 terms? of co-op.... I really want to work designing engines or suspension components. like pretty much everyone on the board)

Is porsche looking for co-op students???

I was wondering if any of you are in unversitys where this type of program is being offered (follow the link)

Really, that's tight. You will probably see me up there then. I'm going to be going into freshmen engineering this fall. And going Mechanical!

Too bad Purdue won't let us drive as freshmen. But I might see if my friend's cousin wouldn't mind storing my ride up there. :P

My cousin, one of my co-workers at BMW, and several buddies are headed up, and a few more already there. Purdue has the Nation's #6 ranked Mechanical Engineering program :up:

Sweet! I'll look forward to seeing you up there. I'm probably going to go mechanical engineering also, but we'll see. But in terms of co-oping, GM and Ford will probably be the only car companies that we'll have chances to co-op with.

i am kinda headed to mechanical engineering also, i am right now at gettysburg college playing soccer but i've taken 3 years of physics courses. i'll be finishing up my BS in phyiscs next year and then i am looking to head to penn state or maryland.

I am going into Mech. Engr next year as well. I dont know where I am going yet, but I think Clarkson Uni in Potsdam NY. I am going to be doing the Formula SAE program as well, having played with one on visit to Lehigh.

One reason I want to attend Clarkson, they have someone interning with BMW this semester over in Austria. SWEET!!! :D

Yea, I am at a local Comunity College planning on Mech Eng. - Almost every good school will have an "Intorduction to Engineering" class - It's won't be required for the major - but after taking it I highly recomend it.

Mostly we sat around and talked about the major, had guest lectures(engineers) - and hear all that you can do with engineering. And other things. - Something like only 3% of the population are Engineers - but Engineers make up a large protion of Fortune 500 biz owners. - Basically once you have an engineering degree you can anything you want.

I'm expecting ot get my ass kicked by the classes - as in no social life - no free time...and every one I have talked to have told me that's about the size of it.

If they offer the intro class - take it...

Yeah I'm currently in St.Johns Newfoundland.... In Canada... lol... Most of you probably dont know where Newfoundland is... so I was kind enough to supply a map :P

anyway, I'm doing my intro courses now... calculs sucks, concepts are simple... nothin else...

Maybe we'll meet up and race the cars against each other bwanac ;) :twisted: Lol...

and about the job wit gm or ford... lol... Yeah unfortunally thats probably the truth... but co-op with them... get lucky and patent a great design, the european makers will want to... ;) thats my plan... *back to my engine desiging*

I graduated with a BSME this past May from NC State. Excellent ME program. I have not looked for work yet though when I do I plan on working at Caterpillar if possible. They have expressed interest. There are over 70 major job titles for mechanical engineers, it's an exciting major.

Another thing. I almost applied to school by Newfoundland, but parents decided it was to hard to get me there. I was planning on applying to Dalhousie in Halifax. One of my summer "friends" goes to Acadia in Wolfesville, NS.
