I got a sweet Dell from the refurb site for $990... 15" screen, dvd/cdr combo, 40gig hd, 2.2gHz, 256mb ram.
its all I need for college, I had a desktop for 2 years and now my dell for 6 months, and its awesome...

with that kind of CPU ryan, you're really hindering it by only having 256, you need atleast 512.

the question i ask is, which brand?

Dell
HP/Compaq
Toshiba
Sony
Gateway
IBM
Alienware :-p
etc.

find someone near you to build you a computer, you get good parts and exactly what you want. I built my own system and love it:
