    Always wear a seat belt!

Well last night I was in my first car accident...

We where cut off on a four lane road going about 45-50, traffic in the left lane slowed so we figured someone was turning, so we merged into the right lane and by the time we go up to speed she was right in front of us and it all happened so quick we just hit her head on.

My friend was driving and luckily we where both OK. The worst part of it all was we just got the car running the night before, so both seats werent bolted down.....I know its very stupid of us to over look something like that but if I wasn't wearing my seat belt me and the seat would have went through the wind shield.

We always kind of joked about if we where to ever get into a accident in a mk1 rabbit we would just crumble into a ball, but surprisingly it held up very well. Then wind shield didn't even crack.

The car did hold up well. Glad to hear you're ok... I got rear ended a while ago...it's definitely an eye opener, you won't feel the same driving now that you realized it can happen.

This pic showed up on reddit today

I yell at anyone who doesn't belt up as soon as they get in the car. Then again after one ride with me you realize a seatbelt is a good idea. :p

            Glad you were ok.

someone once refused to put on their seatbelt when they were in the back seat of my car. to this day i still wish i had kicked him out right then and there.

glad you're okay, and i'm sorry about the loss of what seems to be a clean mk1..

A few liberal applications of the brakes would likely get your point across. ;)

What was the advantage of not bolting the seats down? Time? I'm glad you guys got out alright, but I'm thinking that was more luck than design.

I had a buddy who didn't put his seat belt on. Took the first turn and him going from one side of the car to the other to change his mind.

The only reason the seats weren't bolted down was because we just set them in there to have something to sit on while working on the fuse boxes, we just forgot to bolt them in.

It was like the second time driving it since it started

They haven't come to inspect the car yet.

The one thing I'm worried about was my friend cut the metal backing of the bumper out.... So there was really nothing except the engine that absorbed the impact

Not sure if they will have Anything to say about that?

Its a A1 chassis VW. There isnt much to "bolt down" as far as seats go. were the seats in the rails? The only "bolt" is the one in the front slider and thats just to prevent the seat from sliding all the way back out.

Sucks about the accident, but those cars give their lives to save the occupants. Never talk down on a Rabbit! haha

ps glad you're ok, dont be stupid, you might be dead next time

Crazy! Good thing your ok. I was in an accident on thanksgiving, my cousin was drifting and the seatbelt saved me from flying out the window... It was pretty rad though!
