I love Bosch from pep boys. Great batteries, last forever, 3 year replacement warranty.

I like to kill mine after about 2 years and go in and get a new one and the warranty starts all over again. Think of it as a lifetime battery for a 100 bucks.

Opinions about battery BRAND will vary about the same as oil or oil filters- I usually just get a battery from whatever store has the best/easiest warranty policy AND has alot of locations and hours. Sucks to have a dead battery 6 months after you buy it and the place is only open 8-5 m-f or something like that.

That said, I've had good luck with Autozone- they are all over the place and their warranty is painless- they keep your records tied to your phone number, so no paperwork to keep track of.

I would seriously consider a Group 49 battery (size) if it's the same price or just a few bucks more than your group 48. The group 49 will fit perfectly in the E30 battery tray (it's the same width and height, just a little bit longer), there's even a nice threaded hole for the hold down bolt to screw into, plus the larger battery will have alot more cranking and reserve power than the Group 48.

EDIT: If the parts place says they can't honor the warranty because the Group 49 is the "wrong" size for your E30, tell them it's for your '87 635csi and they should be fine with it.

I've always had great luck with Autozone's Duralast batteries. Have one in my E30 right now.

rechargable is the way to go. and good call on the AAs, i've tried the AAAs before and they seem to be weak in the winter months.

seriously, i have a interstate in the coupe and am thinking about trying a bosch in the vert since its cheap, close by, has a good warranty, and i tend to like all of their other products i've used.

I think Consumer Affairs ranked the Costco branded batteries pretty well and their warranty is very good as well.

That said I bought an Optima Red Top @Pep Boys it died year 3 they warrantied it out about 3 years ago and its still going.

I havent kept a car longer than 4 years, so I usually buy walmart ones. Their return policies are excellent, especially if your dealing with a bad alternator/unknown issue that keeps killing it.
Haven't you ever seen Russian Nesting Dolls? They work like that.

BTW, if I get the battery at Costco, will they take back my old battery or I just dump it at autozone/pepboys?

Humm...just came back from Costco and according to their chart, my 92 e30 need BCI 90 but there are none of those size there...anyone know what other size should I get?

Their customer service is pretty good, you can ask them to locate it or have it shipped there tomorrow if its in the warehouse, free. I'm pretty sure if you install it there they'll dispose of your old battery.

That is what my old one said...if all the spec are the same (cranking power, R/C), there should be no difference...right?
