    funny race against a nice '90 325iS...

Tonight I saw a sweet '90 325iS, black/black with nice 17" BBS looking wheels, lowered and just all around sweet.
I was in my 535iS, and I had him next to me pulling away from an intersection. I pulled on him, and raced him again, pulling on him again.
\he pulled up next to me and I wanted to say nice car to him, but before I could he asked me "What motor you got in that thing!?"
    I replied "its an M30"
his response "Shit, you got me beat, go ahead!" (we were going from 2 lanes to 1)

I have an open K&N intake on my car that is VERY LOUD and he must have been intimidated, but I pulled on him just as I knew I would...
it was fun, but will be even more fun when I have my Euro 3.5L in 2 months, that will just rip-ass.

Euro spec 3.5's are 218hp and they get that HP from a higher compression ratio. The rest of the system is all the same and that compression bump is about enough to cause you lots of pinging for your listening pleasure.

I drove a guys 535is that showed up to one of our meets. I fell in love with the M30, and so want to swap one into the e30 know. It just felt so much more solid accerlating. It felt just a tad faster then my 325is but had more GRUNT behind it.

              no... its an M30b35 Euro L-Block from a '79 635CSi.
Adam- there is more too it... it has a shorter stroke with a big more so it revves like crazy. if you think its just higher compression and all the same other than that you havn't done your homework.

I think we've got conflicting evidence then.

                Oh well.

                  "Euro 3.5 up to '82 model year 93.35 bore X 84 stroke( same as M-5,6) compression 9-1. 218 hp. US 535 92 bore X 86 stroke 8-1 compression 182hp. The euro is 3453cc the US is 3430." -Pete McHenry

Adam is on the right track. The Euro motor makes more peak HP due to the larger bore size, and the bumped compression. 8:1 for the US motor is weak; but good for turbos/superchargers.

Thanks for clearing that up, Stu. I have less experience on pre-82 motors so I didn't know that they changed it for Euro spec as far as the bore x stroke.

Anyhow, point still stands about the compression. Ryan, you know as well as I do how much the gas sucks around here.

yea, but I don't get much if any pinging with my 10.8:1 S14 motor..
I will get this thing to work just fine, I have talked to a few guys who have done it, and the car it came out of was imported to the US anyhow. its from a '79 Euro 635CSi...
